1

3D Printing

3D print a 3" cube with 1/8" thick walls.

2

Milling

Mill your wood base. I made the pocket that the glowing shade sits in 1/8" deep. I used a speed of 22 and a depth per pass of 0.04" on the Shapeoko 2.

3

Adding Feet

Cut 1/4" thick cork into small circles. Glue them onto the bottom corners of the wood base.

Can you post your STL file for the 3D print?

This is amazing! Does any one by chance have a source of someone who could do the 3D print portion for cost of materials. I'd love to have one or two for our group here in Omaha, but we only have a Shapeoko and no cash for a printer. (it's a school age non-profit group)

Thanks Bryan! You may want to check out the Omaha Maker Group. There's also a makerspace (with a 3D printer) at the Omaha Children's Museum; that could be good depending on the age of your school kiddos :)

Excellent project idea. Have you ever considered the PhotoLuminescent 1/4" translucent sheet material Illuminare at www.agcomarble.com ? It has a brighter and longer glow than 3D filament it seems...

Wow Robert, that material looks really cool. Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely check it out.
