Wenge is an African hardwood with exceptionally dark heartwood. An interesting black streaking is usually present throughout the surface. It is dark enough to be used as a substitute for ebony. While it may blunt sharp tool edges due to its strength and hardness, these properties also make it ideal for flooring, tool handles and furniture. Wenge averages 57 lbs per cubic foot, making it a fairly heavy wood.
