I used prime pine for this project. Use carving easel of your choice but I chose 70, 14, and .75 because I am using the 1/8 compression bit for this carve.
Base on the thickness of the material calculate the appropriate depth settings.
After the carve is complete I sanded the piece before I carve the family initial. I switched to 90 degree bit for this cut.
For the family initial I used the center position. Easier to center the carve.

Switched back the 1/8 compression and kept the center position for this carve, Ensure the bit is dead center on the material.

Used 50/50 epoxy resin to fill the family name; however, makes it easy to use stencil vinyl during the initial name carve so the resin won’t stick too much to the edges of the initial.
When the resin has cured (1 day or two), sand it until the wood and resin is smooth to the touch. I used 180, 320, and 500 grid.
For the final touch, I used 3 coats of danish oil.
