This is an easy way to add class to your kitchen and get your knives up and away from the little ones in your house – all while making them abundantly accessible.

Everything about this project is super simple. Start out by cutting the workpiece from your preferred down to size – Roughly 16×2.25×1.25.

Set up the workpiece in your X-Carve and put it to work. After the carve is complete, sand off the tabs then drill two small holes on the bottom side for set screws. Just make sure the screws are recessed below the surface, but their points stick into the void on the back of the workpiece. (Watch the video for clarification.)

Test fit your magnets in the pockets to make sure they will go in easily, but have a tight fit. Tune up the space with a chisel if necessary. Then add some epoxy to each pocket and press the magnets into place using a wooden dowel. Be careful not to get the magnets too close to each other so they don’t just back out and snap together, possibly pinching your fingers in the process. When the epoxy hardens sand the surface and apply your preferred finish.

Cut a strip of wood to fit inside the channel in the back, roughly .5 × .75 × 10 inches. Drill holes through it and mount it level on your wall. You probably have to use drywall anchors. Then you just slip the block over the strip and run the set screws up from the bottom to lock it in place.
