General Information

This is a quick project to make a more attractive qi charger for my new iPhone 8 Plus.

It fits perfectly on a shelf of a nightstand I built over the summer and includes spots for my glasses and apple watch.

The flocking isn’t necessary but makes it look really nice!

Cut the Pattern

120 minutes

Here’s the model of Qi charger this was designed for – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0734L6N2W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used an X-Carve to cut the pattern in half inch baltic birch plywood using a 1/4" bit to cut down on the time.

It’s pretty straightforward, but be careful about how deep you cut the iPhone hole. Too deep and your cut will be too deep. This isn’t a huge problem though, I did this on my first attempt and hid the hole using a piece of card stock glued into the iPhone hole.

Once one side is cut, flip it over and take the time to line up the second cut.

Sanding / Staining

20 minutes

Sand the pad and give it a good stain.

Give it a good stain and let it dry overnight.

3

Flocking

15 minutes

Check out this video on flocking, it’s super easy to do.

4

Put on Nightstand

2 minutes

Look super cool!

As a little bonus, I added a piece to hold my apple watch charger.
